Pool Safety

Children should never be without supervision near water.

A four feet fence should be installed all around the pool. Make sure the latch on the gate is at a height that the children cannot reach. Rescue equipment and a portable telephone should be accessible.

“Floaties” or inflatable swimming devices are not a substitute for approved life vests and can give children a false sense of security. Infants and toddlers should have adults in the pool with them at arm’s length providing “touch supervision”.

  • Consider swim lessons for your child when they are developmentally ready.

  • Don’t swim when you have diarrhea.

  • Shower with soap and water before swimming.

  • Wash hands with soap and water after using the rest room or changing a diaper.

  • Take your children on bathroom breaks or check diapers often.

  • Change diapers in the rest room and not by the pool side.
